Top 5 Tips for a Safe and Fun Halloween!

October 30, 2014

Happy Halloweek Toronto!

Here are 5 quick tips to keep everyone happy and healthy while Trick-or-Treating this year:

1.  LAYERING UNDER COSTUMES

It's going to be a chilly night tomorrow - layering is key!  Whether it's a couple pairs of thick tights or a full on turtleneck (it seems that every year I had a turtleneck poking out of my costume!).  Kids might fight it at first but they will be grateful when they don't have to cut the candy collection short because they are too cold to stay outside. Mitts and warm socks are also a must.

2.  CANDY CHAT

A quick pep talk with the whole family about safe candy eating can go a long way.  Be sure to focus on the following:

1.  Never open a candy wrapper that has been tampered with or looks like it is already opened

2.  Always check with a grown up before you try a candy you've never seen before

3.  No candy that looks home made should be eaten without talking to a big person!

3.  FRIENDLY FOOTWARE

Don't let princess Elsa convince you that high heels are essential to her costume.  Crazy footware leads to discomfort and sometimes slips and trips.  They will thank you when they are running around comfortably in their sneaks!

5.  HYDRATION

Staying hydrated is often overlooked in the colder weather.  Fact is - your kids may be running around longer and harder than any soccer game you have ever seen them at! If you are trick or treating with your kids, pack a water bottle or juice boxes.  If your kids are older and going with friends, encourage them to finish a BIG glass of water before they set out on their candy mission.

Wishing you a Safe and Happy Halloween Toronto!

xoxo,
